page 2 "Bro. Calvin's Comments" Advertising campaigns are gearing up. Christmas decorations and displays are set up. This time of year is a time of music. Christmas music already is heard in the stores. Music helps set the tone for the Christmas season. We all have our favorite Christmas hymns or songs. My favorite is a hymn that is an old one, originally written in Latin. I do not tire of the message or the music of this wonderful hymn. This hymn invites our Savior and Lord to come and be a part of our lives. This hymn also invites us to rejoice in the hope of His coming. "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" is the Christmas hymn that I can listen to year-round. Through the words of this song I can ask the Lord to deliver me, to lift my spirits, to guide me, and to bring peace. The hymn writer and translators also capture the idea that it is for me, for us, and for others that Jesus Christ (truly "God with us") came to this world. He came to this world to suffer for and deliver us from our sins, to free us from Satan's plans and power, to guide us in paths of righteousness, and to bring peace between God and us and between one another. Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, has ransomed those who trust in Him from our sins. May He come and cheer your spirit by His presence, dispersing the gloom that you may feel. May He show you the paths you are to take in your daily life. May He bring peace to you and your family in all situations at all times. Moreover, when He does so, I hope you will rejoice and praise His precious and Holy Name. "O come, Thou Wisdom from on high, And order all things, far and nigh; To us the path of knowledge show, And cause us in her ways to go. O come, Desire of nations, bind all peoples in one heart and mind; Bid envy, strife, and quarrels cease; Fill the whole world with heaven's peace. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!" (Latin hymn, translated by J.M. Neale and H.S. Coffin). Blessings,
Come Join Us "Signs of Christmas" "This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Luke 2:12 "The signs of Christmas are all around. There are lights on houses and wreaths on doors. There are Christmas trees shining through windows and shoppers at the mall. Yes, the signs of Christmas are everywhere. The important thing we must do for our children at Christmas is to make sure all these signs point to Jesus. Jesus, who came to earth as a baby in a manger, to Christ who died for us on the Cross. The musical Signs of Christmas reminds us to think of Jesus throughout the season." "Come, Let Us Worship the King" "Come, Let Us Worship the King reminds us that long ago a King made His journey from heaven to earth. Almighty God himself had prepared the way for the Savior's arrival to earth. At the moment of His birth, Jesus began to fulfil every prophecy ever made about His coming. Mary and Joseph knew that this Baby was going to be special, but who would imagine a King?" May you have a wonderful Christmas and New Years with your family and friends.
