page 2 "Bro. Calvin's Comments" As we enter the month of November, we come to the time of year where thanksgiving comes to mind. For me, memories of Thanksgiving center around the meal with the family, watching the Dallas Cowboys football game, and going outside to play football. When the turkey and dressing was done and everyone else had brought whatever they cooked, Daddy said grace and we all fixed our plates. With three sisters and a brother, all married and with children, the Thanksgiving meal usually had about twenty one people scattered at the table, the kitchen, and the living room. After Cindy and I started dating, I experienced two Thanksgiving meals. One at my home and one at hers. Both places were home to me. I just had to get used to the idea that at the Wood residence that at some point during the day Mr. Wood would go outside to do some sort of work. I experienced two different Thanksgiving traditions each year. But there was something that was common between the two families - a thankfulness for family. Abraham Lincoln, in his Thanksgiving Proclamation, said that we as a people "are prone to forget the source in which they (blessings) come." As we come to this time of year, let us consider what the Psalmist said in Psalm 95 about thanksgiving. We have reason to rejoice because of who the Lord is and how he cares for us. We have every reason to joyfully shout in song to Him. He is the "great King above all gods." He is the creator and owner of all creation. He also is our Shepherd who takes care of us. In the New Testament Jesus is described as the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:11), the Great Shepherd of the sheep (Heb. 13:20), and the Shepherd and Guardian of our souls (1 Pet. 2:25). Because of His wonderful care for us, let us give thanks all through this month. Not just for what He has done, but also for who He is. But let us also listen for and obey His voice so that we may enter the rest for our souls that Jesus intends for us to experience. Blessings,
![]() "O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms." Psalms 95:1-2 NASB We are quickly moving toward one of my favorite times of the year, Thanksgiving and Christmas! It is a time to be thankful for all God has given to me: salvation in Jesus, life, family, church family, friends. The list goes on and on. One way I celebrate is to stop and spend time thanking God for how He has blessed me. I encourage you to do the same. Then spend time encouraging one another by telling what God has done.
