"Bro. Calvin's Comments"

After the movie “Apollo 13” came out, NASA Flight Controller Gene Kranz wrote Failure Is Not an Option, He wrote of Mission Control’s development as an organization. He wrote of lessons learned and philosophies developed in flight controllers. The results – twelve men walked on the moon. Over time a document entitled “Foundations of Mission Control” was written, which states the expectations of each person in Mission Control. This is what is says:
“Foundations of Mission Control:” (1) “To instill within ourselves these qualities essential for professional excellence: Discipline: Being able to follow as well as lead, knowing that we must master ourselves before we can master our task. Competence: There being no substitute for total preparation and complete dedication, for space will not tolerate the careless or indifferent. Confidence: Believing in ourselves as well as others, knowing that we must master fear and hesitation before we can succeed. Responsibility: Realizing that it cannot be shifted to others, for it belongs to each of us; we must answer for what we do, or fail to do. Toughness: Taking a stand when we must; to try again, and again, even if it means following a more difficult path. Teamwork: Respecting and utilizing the ability of others, realizing that we work toward a common goal, for success depends on the efforts of all.” (2) “To always be aware that suddenly and unexpectedly we may find ourselves in a role where our performance has ultimate consequences.” (3) “To recognize that the greatest error is not to have tried and failed, but that in trying, we did not give it our best effort.” (Gene Kranz, Failure Is Not an Option, Simon & Schuster, 2000, p.393).
I review this document from time to time to do a spiritual checkup. Ask yourself these questions and let the Holy Spirit reveal the answers to you. Do I practice spiritual disciplines such as prayer, Bible reading and study, worship and service? Do I strive for competence, being totally prepared and completely dedicated to the Lord and his work? Do I show confidence in the Lord by obeying Him regardless of personal cost? Do I accept responsibility for all I think, say, and do or do I deflect it to someone else? Am I so committed to the Lord Jesus that, when I am knocked down, I’ll get back up again and continue to trust and obey Him? Do I connect to the body of Christ, realizing that I can’t do it all, but the body of Christ can because the head of the body – Jesus Christ Himself – has provided for the work by the various spiritual gifts given to the body? Have I prepared myself so that I am ready to share the saving, healing, and sustaining grace of Jesus? Have I prepared myself so that I give my best effort (energized by the Holy Spirit) to the task before me?
If you haven’t met God’s standards, ask Him to forgive you and let today be a fresh start in your relationship with Him. Don’t forget to keep up the good work in areas that are strong.

Bro. Calvin

“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, And to sing praises to Thy name, O Most High, To declare Thy lovingkindness in the morning, and Thy faithfulness by night.”  Psalm 92:1-2 NASB

There is great benefit in giving thanks to God. It is the right thing to do. Giving thanks helps us put things and life into perspective. It brings pleasure and joy to our lives. More than just thanking others, we must thank the Lord. He has done so much for us, from the daily necessities of existence to providing eternal life for all who place their faith in Jesus Christ the Lord. Giving thanks leads us to sing praises to God and to proclaim God’s great love, grace, mercy, kindness, and faithfulness all day long.

Lord Jesus, I want to thank You for giving me another day to live. Thank You for the opportunity to lift my voice in song, praising You my Lord.

Invite someone today to Sunday School and Worship!
I'll See You Sunday! MAX
