page 2 "Bro. Calvin's Comments" "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me". Over the years I have thought about these words of my Lord Jesus and wondered what they meant. How do they apply to the Christian Life as lived out in the "sacred ordinary" of life? Today, as I studied this passage, a few things came to mind. I noticed in this simple statement the strong language the Lord Jesus used in answering Thomas' question about knowing the way. Jesus' own words are emphatic-"I am the way...except through me". The first and last words of this sentence are emphatic-it is Jesus and Jesus alone that is the way, the truth, and the life. It is through Jesus and Jesus alone that one can come to the Father. There is no one else through whom we can gain access to the Father. Jesus said He is the way. He is the way to heaven, if we have trusted Him as Savior and Lord. He is the way to freedom, having freed us from our sins (Romans 6:1-14; Galatians 5:1). Jesus said He is the truth. It is by His truth that we are set free (John 8:32). No longer are we destabilized by the devil's deceptions. No longer are we tossed by the fickleness of our emotions. No longer are we enslaved by sin's power. Jesus' truth stabilizes our lives, sets our course on the path of righteousness, and frees to serve Him who paid our sin debt and broke sin's power over us. Blessed be the name of our Lord! And Jesus said He is the life. He is the source, the wellspring, the fountain for true, energetic, and significant life. He has given us who believe in Him life that has eternal qualities as well as life that lasts for all eternity. So how does this affect day-to-day life? When we look at Jesus Christ, we see the way we are to live our lives-in total faith and obedience, setting aside our will to seek first the Kingdom of God. We see we are to live our lives based on truth-on reality not as we perceive it, but on reality as revealed by the Word of God. We see we are to live life-a life that is significantly different than the life of this world. We are to live a life of integrity and morality that is rooted in and a reflection of our relationship with Jesus Christ. If you have never trusted Christ to save you, you can be saved by trusting Him. Admit your disobedience to yourself and to Him (truth), believe that He is the Savior (truth and way), calling on Him to save you, and commit yourself to follow Him (life). If you have trusted Him, continually be honest with Him, apply His truth to your life daily, and you will walk in His paths of righteousness. Blessings, Bro. Calvin
