page 2 "Bro. Calvin's Comments" A lot is on my mind as I write this month's column: personal matters, ministry matters (church and chaplain), and social issues of the day. Not only is there a lot on my mind, there are a lot of demands on my time: family, ministry, and even personal care. Through it all I realize that I desperately need the Lord's wisdom and leadership. Over the years I have taken to heart these words of wisdom from scripture - Proverbs 3:5-6, 16:3, and 16:9. One of the first things I draw from these words of wisdom is that my day is under the Lord's leadership. While I plan to do certain things or make contact with and spend time with someone, I know that the Lord is ultimately the one who decides how I spend my day. Many times, I have to ask the Lord and listen for his answer, "what is more important, the tasks before me or the people around me?" Once I have heard His voice, then I should act accordingly, fully confident in my Lord's provision. While I was in my last semester at ETBU, I also served as a substitute teacher. One morning I was asked to substitute teach. I had just a few seconds to make a decision. As the situation was explained to me, I began praying for guidance. You see, I had a major test the next day. The Lord led me to go substitute. In this situation, the need of people outweighed my task for test preparation. The next day I went to school. I didn't prepare for the test. I was reviewing for the test when my professor came by and asked about my readiness for the test. He slapped me on the knee, expressed his confidence in me and went to his office. I took the test and felt I did well. Well, I did do well, and the Lord affirmed that when I obey him, he provides what is necessary for everything else. As you go through each day, trust the Lord. Seek His wisdom and leadership for the tasks and interactions for the day. Be ready to have your plans changed, fully confident that the Lord is guiding your footsteps, and rest assured that the Lord wants to visit with you and use you to share his love and grace with others. Blessings, Bro. Calvin
