"Bro. Calvin's Comments"

A lot is on my mind as I write this month's column: personal matters, ministry matters (church and chaplain), and social issues of the day. Not only is there a lot on my mind, there are a lot of demands on my time: family, ministry, and even personal care. Through it all I realize that I desperately need the Lord's wisdom and leadership.

Over the years I have taken to heart these words of wisdom from scripture - Proverbs 3:5-6, 16:3, and 16:9. One of the first things I draw from these words of wisdom is that my day is under the Lord's leadership. While I plan to do certain things or make contact with and spend time with someone, I know that the Lord is ultimately the one who decides how I spend my day. Many times, I have to ask the Lord and listen for his answer, "what is more important, the tasks before me or the people around me?" Once I have heard His voice, then I should act accordingly, fully confident in my Lord's provision. While I was in my last semester at ETBU, I also served as a substitute teacher. One morning I was asked to substitute teach. I had just a few seconds to make a decision. As the situation was explained to me, I began praying for guidance. You see, I had a major test the next day. The Lord led me to go substitute. In this situation, the need of people outweighed my task for test preparation. The next day I went to school. I didn't prepare for the test. I was reviewing for the test when my professor came by and asked about my readiness for the test. He slapped me on the knee, expressed his confidence in me and went to his office. I took the test and felt I did well. Well, I did do well, and the Lord affirmed that when I obey him, he provides what is necessary for everything else.

As you go through each day, trust the Lord. Seek His wisdom and leadership for the tasks and interactions for the day. Be ready to have your plans changed, fully confident that the Lord is guiding your footsteps, and rest assured that the Lord wants to visit with you and use you to share his love and grace with others.

Blessings, Bro. Calvin

The committee members are Carey Adams, Steve Brown, Linda Carter, Daphne Edwards, David Edwards, Calvin Hubbard, Max Hutto, Jeri McCormick, Shane Waites, and Randy Ward STRONG>Please pray for this committee, for your place of service, and our church as we seek to enlist workers for the Lord's work! Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest." Matthew 9:37-38 NASB

Notes of appreciation: First, I would like to express my appreciation to all who had a part in making our VBS a great week. There were many adults and youth involved as leaders and helpers. We could not do VBS without you! Thank you for all your hard work. A special thank you to Linda Carter, our VBS Director. Second, I would like to thank the church and all who gave so that Daniel could attend the Louisiana Baptist All-State Youth Choir. As I write this, he is on tour in Tennessee. Third, I would like to say thanks to all who prayed for Anna as she went on the Mission Trip to Guatemala. She had a wonderful time working with 63 Missionary Kids during the week at camp. Please continue to pray for her as she prepares for State GA Camp where she will be the Assistant Director.
