“Bro. Calvin’s Comments”
When I was twelve, I had to have surgery. After the surgery, the wound healed
and scar tissue formed. I thought the scars were no longer sensitive, but I
found out differently ten years later. Cindy lightly touched a scar, muscles
contracted and I felt some discomfort. Slowly the scar’s sensitivity decreased.
Now I no longer react as I did ten years after surgery.
In life, we also accumulate scar tissue. We’ve been wounded by family, friends,
and even fellow church members. The wounds heal and scars form. The choices we
make, especially in forgiving, determine how quickly we recover, and how
sensitive the scar stays. You see, forgiveness is a choice–it is a choice to let
go of any thing we feel the other owes us. It is a choice to let the Lord
resolve any injustices we experience (Romans 12:9-21). It is a choice to show
Jesus’ grace, “forgiving one another as Christ forgave us” (Ephesians 4:32).
Forgiveness does not cancel the consequences, it heals the spirit. Forgiveness
is an expression of faith that our Lord will take care of the situation justly
and in His own time.
Recently, a hurt from our past came back. Cindy and I had extended forgiveness
to someone about fifteen years ago. As we expressed our feelings, friends
listened and counseled, and we found God’s grace sufficient. Today, we again
choose to let God act, praying for grace, wisdom, and God’s will to be done. We
have chosen to let go of what we feel we are owed and let God resolve the
situation according to His wisdom and justice. We are confident He will take
care of the matter.
If you’re wounded in your soul, tell the Lord. Choose today, by God’s grace, to
let go of what you feel you’re owed and let God take care of it in His time.
God’s grace is sufficient for this, and tomorrow, next week, next month, next
year, and even ten, twenty, or more years from now, choose again to “let go and
let God” if your scar is touched.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you all.
