"Bro. Calvin's Comments"

One Friday I had some automobile trouble. While zipping down the road, I looked in my mirror, and what do you know, there's a cloud of smoke coming from my truck. I had that sinking feeling of "major repairs" and money going out of our account.

I called Cindy after I pulled the truck over in a safe place. She picked me up, I took her back to work and then I started calling various auto shops to get the "worst case scenario". After deciding where to take the truck, my brother-in-law towed it to a local shop Friday afternoon.

I went to the shop Monday morning and spoke to one of the owners. I described what happened and he said that he thought I'd need a new transmission. He told me he'd look into it and let me know what the verdict was. A few hours later he called and explained what happened. Praise the Lord, I didn't need a new trans- mission! Instead of spending a whole lot of money, we only had to spend about ten percent of what we thought we'd have to spend.

In the midst of all this, Cindy and I were praying for God's wisdom on any decisions we had to make. We were trying to prepare for a major repair or new (to us) car. Instead, our Lord protected and provided. He provided the funds to pay the bill. Our Lord also provided additional transportation – a loaner vehicle – through the kindness and generosity of fellow believers in the church.

Through all this, I've learned that the Lord blesses his faithful followers so that they can use their blessings to help others. I also was reminded that though the situation may be stressful, the Lord is already at work to provide.

If the Lord has blessed you in some way, look for opportunities to share those blessings as a way to share the gospel (Phil 1:12). If you are in a stressful situation, stay faithful, looking to the Lord to provide at just the right time (Ps 34:4-7).

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen" (2 Cor. 13:14)
