"Bro. Calvin's Comments"

In a few days we will gather to launch balloons, to fellowship together during meal time, and then to pray. I believe that this truly is an important time to pray. Yes, I'll admit that these times have created a lot of tension and have had significant impacts on everyone in some way. Yet, when we gather together on May 7 for the National Day of Prayer, we will gather with hope and confidence.

Our hope, you see, is in the Lord Jesus Christ. He has provided, at the highest cost - the cost of His own life on the cross - access to the throne of our Heavenly Father. Having trusted in the Lord, we can talk to Him about the situations surrounding us. Knowing that the Lord is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, we can read from His Holy Word and listen to His Holy Spirit for His guidance, for His leadership, for His directions as to how to live in the midst of this "crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world" (Phil. 2:15b-16).

Our confidence is in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is through His work as our High Priest that we can confidently enter the throne room of our Heavenly Father "so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time" (Heb. 4:16b). He will hear us if we ask according to His holy will (I John 5:14).

Let us gather together to fulfill our calling as priests of the Lord, to stand in the gap for one another, our church, our brothers and sisters in Christ who serve our community, state, and nation, and for our leaders "so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity" (1 Tim. 2:2b).

"May the Lord answer you in a day of trouble; may the name of Jacob's God protect you. May He send you help from the sanctuary and sustain you from Zion…May He give you what your heart desires and fulfill your whole purpose. Let us shout for joy at your victory and lift the banner in the name of our God. May the LORD fulfill all your requests" (Ps. 20:1-2, 4-5).

Bro. Calvin

April has been a busy month. The Eggstravaganza was a great event with lots of eggs and kids! Thanks to all who helped make it great! Easter was a glorious day of celebration of our risen Savior. While the weather did not allow us to be in the garden, the Sunrise Service and breakfast were a marvelous way to begin the day remembering what the Lord did for us! The Louisiana College Chorale concert was inspiring. A big thank you to all who hosted these traveling strangers (3 John 5-6). I want to share a detail about the event that most of you don't know. The group was to meet back here at the church Saturday morning at 9:30 to leave for their next activity. At about 9:45 they assembled in the Fellowship Hall to do a morning devotional/worship time. This student led time was composed of over an hour of praise and worship music. Then a student presented a marvelous message. The service ended with close to an hour of prayer time. It was very inspiring to see such love and devotion to the Lord from this group of college students. They finally pulled out at noon to go eat and travel to their next concert. I was impressed by these students and their director. The Lord is working on the campus of Louisiana College.

Some of the events in this busy time of the year include: Graduate Recognition, May 3. We will also take up an offering to help with Daniel's expenses to the Louisiana Baptist All-State Youth Choir tour. They will be doing a lot of mission work including singing at a number of detention and youth centers. I want to say a special thank you in advance for your help in making the memorable trip possible. Mother's Day and Parent-Child Dedication, May 10. Senior Adult Day, May 17. Vacation Bible School, June 22-26 from 6:00 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. Will you volunteer! See Linda Carter now! Plus many more events!
