page 2 "Bro. Calvin's Comments" During the 2007 spring semester, I would listen to a variety of radio stations as I traveled to and from Ft. Worth. One day I heard a discussion that raised my curiosity about a book. This was not a religious book. It was not a history book. It was a book about words. But it was about more than words; it was about "words that work." It was about how to get your message across simply, effectively, and with influence. It had no new ideas; it simply brought good ideas together and showed how words can work. For a number of years, I've tried to find the words that work for me - words that describe who I am and what I'm to do for the Lord Jesus. I've read personal mission statements, educational mission statements, business mission statements, and church mission statements. I've written personal mission statements. I've rewritten personal mission statements, some using words from the mission statements I've read. Through all this, I've come to understand some things. First, I've learned who I am. I am a child of God, born again and adopted by grace into the Lord's family. Second, I have a purpose for existing, a reason for living. Six words simply state that purpose or reason: "Love God, Love Others, Make Disciples." To these six words, I connect nine more words that tell me how to love: "Love God completely, Love myself correctly, and Love others compassionately." Kenneth Boa wrote these nine words. Since reading them, the Lord has used them to help me to keep things in perspective. Thus, simple words put together into three simple sentences have become words that work for me. "I am a child of God by faith in Christ. I am to love God, love others, and make disciples. I am to love God completely, love myself correctly, and love others compassionately." Will these words change in the future? Maybe, maybe not. Right now, these words work for me. The question that you must answer right now, though, is "What words work for you?" May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. Bro. Calvin
