page 2 "Bro. Calvin's Comments" Life is filled with choices. Joshua challenged Israel to make a choice (Joshua 24:14-28). Joshua lays out a simple choice – choose whom they will serve. Joshua then announces his choice – to serve the Lord. This is the most important decision a person can make – to love and obey the Lord Jesus who has given His life on the cross to save us from our sins. If you have never asked the Lord Jesus to save you, now is a very good time to do so. If you have trusted the Lord Jesus to save you, you too, have a choice to make each day. It is the same choice that Joshua gave Israel – whom to serve. Just because you have trusted Jesus as your Savior doesn’t mean you no longer choose whom to serve. You, I, and every other believer must choose each day whom we will serve. Choosing to serve the Lord is a major daily decision. It means that you choose to love God completely. To love God is to obey God (John 14:23). It means that you sacrificially worship Him individually and in community. It means that you seek His will and apply His Holy Scripture in every area of your life – work, school, finances, family, friends, and any other area you may think of. It means that you choose to love others compassionately. Love has been defined as "a deep, unselfish, unconditional desire, leading to action, for the very best for the person loved, regardless of the cost to yourself and regardless of the worthiness or unworthiness of the person loved. It is something you do more than something you feel. It requires an act of the will." It means that you love yourself correctly. You see yourself as a child of God to whom the Lord has given eternal life. You are under his protection. He has said your life has worth and meaning. Today you have a choice to serve the Lord or not serve the Lord. If you choose to serve Him, you then choose to love Him and obey Him. You choose to love and serve other people as Jesus loves them. And you choose to see yourself as Jesus Himself sees you. Your challenge is the same as Israel’s – choose whom you will serve. Grace to you all,
Did you make any New Years resolutions? How are you doing in fulfilling your
resolutions? Many people make New Years resolutions about areas of their life
that need improvement, yet they seem to break them quickly or at least fall well
short of their goal. How about you? Are you keeping your resolutions? I know I
am working on some resolutions right now trying to improve my life both
physically and spiritually. Are there some areas you would like to improve in
your life?
