The Deacons have met with Randy Hales, our Associational Director of Missions, to set out the procedure for establishing a Pastor Search Committee. The Deacons have asked me to share the following information with the church.

1. We request that all the members of our church spend much time in prayer. Pray for wisdom and guidance in selecting a Pastor Search Committee. Pray that the committee will be filled with God's Holy Spirit looking to God for wisdom and direction. Pray for our future Pastor and his family as they seek God's direction in their ministry.

2. Begin to think and pray about people who would be good candidates for the Pastor Search Committee. According to LifeWay's Pastor Search Committee Handbook good candidates for this committee "are characterized by:

  • Continuing spiritual growth
  • Spiritual Discernment
  • Knowing Bible truths and practicing them
  • Faithful attendance and support of the church
  • Team player skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Freedom to attend meetings and travel occasionally
  • Priority commitment to seeking and doing God's will
  • No agenda based on self-interest

Additionally, members of the search committee should represent all segments of the church. . . . Regardless of age, persons selected should possess a maturity level that fits the list of qualifications. . . . The membership of the committee needs to consist of persons whom the members of the church feel led of the Lord to select and persons who themselves sense the leadership of the Lord to serve in this vital ministry role."

3. Our Pastor Search Committee will be composed of five people. Each church member will be asked to nominate in writing five people they consider to best exhibit the above characteristics. This nomination process will be done as a part of the Morning Worship on Sunday, February 3. The Deacons will then tally the results and interview the top candidates untill a committee of five has agreed to serve. Then the Deacons will present the committee to the church for affirmation. This affirmation is tentatively scheduled for Morning Worship on Sunday, February 10.

4. The Deacons will continue to enlist persons to fill the pulpit for the near future. At some point, we will recommend a person to the church to serve as our Interim Pastor.

5. We understand this process of calling a pastor is a lengthy but vital procedure for a church. We ask for your patience and prayers for all involved.

2008 CALENDAR PLANNING meeting will be held Saturday, January 19, at 8:00 a.m. All organizations, groups, and classes make plans to present your dates for 2008 at this important Church Council meeting.

Our next semester of FAITH Sunday School Evangelism Strategy begins Tuesday, February 5. This semester we will be using the new, updated FAITH materials. The Lord will continue to bless our church as we go out and share His love with others. Will you pray about your involvement in FAITH? Remember the Great Commission? Read Matthew 28:18-20.
