"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."      2 Corinthians 5:8
NASB ©

When a believer dies, he is present with the Lord! The believer is in the place where there is no more death, nor pain, nor crying, where all things are made new! He is with Jesus! Psalm 116:15 says, "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His godly ones."
(In my mind's eye I can see a dear, godly man who wanted others to know his Savior, walking quickly up to Jesus. He places his hand on Jesus' shoulder and says, "Hello, Friend!")

Lord Jesus, thank you for those who have been faithful to You and who are now with You! Help me to live following their example, pleasing You each day.

Russell Pearson

MINDEN, LA - Russell Pearson went to be with our Lord on August 24, 2002 after a very sudden illness. He was born October 4, 1940 in Bradford, Arkansas and moved to Minden in 1976. He attended Hendrix College and then graduated from East Texas State College. He retired from the LA Army Ammunition Plant in 1995, where he had been employed as a cost accountant for approximately 17 years. For the last three years, he had been working for Valley Grinding and Supply.

Russell was a very active and prominent member of North Acres Baptist Church. He served as chairman of the buiding committee and helped to build the first building in 1994. North Acres was originally Southside Baptist Church which he was a member of since moving to Minden. He served on the deacon body and was Sunday School Director for many years. He also served on various church committees and helped with the youth, the elderly and shut-ins. He was very involved in a concept of witnessing called FAITH, (more info), because he wanted to see everyone come to know our Lord.

He loved the outdoors and his animals. They will miss him, too. He and his wife had built a horse farm North of Minden where they raised registered paint and quarter horses. And he had two very special cats, Leonard-Dart and Bootsy, and a very special Dog, Chelsea.

Russell was a very, very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved his family and he showed this every day. He was always doing for someone else while asking for nothing in return. Words cannot describe the void that he has left in our hearts and our lives. His legacy is one of Christianity, love, family, honesty, fairness and faithfulness to the cause of others coming to knowing Christ. He will be sorely missed - Until we see him again.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maureen Pearson; father, Cleveland Pearson and step-daughter, Kristi Irby.

He is survived by his loving wife. Carolyn Sanders Pearson of Minden; son, Rusty Pearson and wife Annette of Ozark, Arkansas; daughter Krista Pearson Menezes and husband Joseph of Kenner, LA, son, Michael Pearson of Texarkana, Texas; two sisters, Martha Pearson Johnson and husband Walter of DeKalb, Texas and Frances Pearson Smith and husband Don of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. His grandchildren. Jonathan Menezes, Lauren Menezes, Alaina Pearson, Dalton Pearson, Keely Pearson, and Alexis Pearson. Also his nieces and nephew, Betsy Johnson Langley and husband Brian; Donna Smith Wheeler and husband Duke; and David Smith and wife Sena.

Services were held Tuesday, August 28, at 2 p.m. at the North Acres Baptist Church in Minden. Interment was at the Holly Springs Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Acres Baptist Church Building Fund.

DEATH - WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO EXPLAIN IT

A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, "Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side."

Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know."

"You don't know? You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said, "Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing... I know my Master is there and that is enough."
